Janmashtami

Janmashtami is a major Hindu festival celebrating the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the Krishna Paksha (waning moon) in the month of Bhadrapada (August–September). Devotees observe fasting, sing devotional songs, and perform midnight celebrations, as Krishna is believed to have been born at midnight. Temples and homes are beautifully decorated, and special rituals, pujas, and Bhagavad Gita readings are conducted. In many regions, cultural events like Dahi Handi—where teams form human pyramids to break a pot of curd—add festive excitement. Janmashtami is celebrated with devotion, joy, and grandeur, reflecting love and reverence for Lord Krishna.
