Vishu
Vishu is a traditional Hindu festival celebrated in Kerala, marking the beginning of the Malayalam New Year. Observed in the month of Medam (April), Vishu is a time of new beginnings, prosperity, and family gatherings. One of the main rituals is the Vishu Kani, where auspicious items like rice, fruits, flowers, coins, and a mirror are arranged for the first sight on the day to bring good luck. People also burst fireworks, exchange greetings, and give Vishu Kaineettam (gifts of money) to children and younger family members. Special festive meals, called Vishu Sadya, featuring a variety of traditional Kerala dishes, are prepared and shared. Vishu is celebrated with joy, devotion, and cultural fervor, symbolizing hope, abundance, and new opportunities.
